Bayern will be looking to fire into a four-point lead at the top of the Bundesliga standings when the defending champions – without the injured Manuel Neuer, Werder Bremen on Saturday.
King Coman stole the spotlight from 21-goal top scorer Lewandowski with a brace as the Bavarians responded to Borussia Dortmund’s win over Mainz with a comfortable 4-1 triumph at Fortuna Düsseldorf last weekend.
The result lifted Bayern back to the summit and took them onto a vastly superior +49 in the goal difference column, Niko Kovac’s ensemble having hit at least three goals in nine of their 12 Bundesliga assignments since the turn of the year. Last weekend’s success came at a cost, though. Goalkeeper Neuer suffered a calf injury and has been ruled out for around two weeks, with Sven Ulreich set for a run in the side between the posts. Thomas Müller is likely to continue in attack ahead of James Rodriguez, with the latter nursing a groin strain, while there’s still no sign of long-term absentee Arjen Robben.
Bremen left it late, but remain the only team in Europe’s top five leagues not called Paris Saint-Germain to have found the net in every game this season following their 2-1 win against Freiburg. Davy Klaassen and Theodor Gebre Selassie scored in the final 15 minutes as Werder extended their unbeaten start in 2019 to 12 matches and moved to within a point of the European places. Johannes Eggestein missed the game through injury, and remains a major doubt for the trip the Allianz Arena, where the Green-Whites have not won in over a decade. Yuya Osako should continue in the 20-year-old’s stead, alongside 18-goal strike duo Kruse and Milot Rashica. Bremen host Bayern in the DFB Cup semi-finals four days later.
