Naming the best Germany XI of all time is very tough.
How can you combine players from completely totally different generations; how can one make best Germany XI and not be unfair.
I’ve seen them myself win the trophy in 1990 and in 2014. I was not born in 1974. But I’ve seen all of it. I’ve seen Helmut Rahn shoot and Fritz Walter orchestrate, I’ve seen Gerd Muller score and Bernd Holzenbein fall inside the 1974 closing.
I grew up watching footage of Franz Beckenbauer and wished to be just like him, and later I wanted to be a pacesetter like Stefan Effenberg. I observed Klaus Fischer’s bicycle kick, and watched Kopfballungeheuer — the header monster — Horst Hrubesch in awe.
