The search for Robbery replacements is taking another direction. German daily Bild claim that Uli Hoeness is desperate to sign Manchester City winger Leroy Sane.
The Bayern president wants to secure an all-German connection on the wings. Lerpy Sane already has a fruitful partnership with Serge Gnabry for Germany.
As a result, the Bavarians are keen on bringing that same dynamism to club level.
Bild says that Pep Guardiola has reportedly given the go-ahead for a Sane exit, with the winger no longer the preferred choice in the starting lineup. Contract negotiations between City and the player have halted, with Sane’s current deal due to expire in 2021.
Despite this, the English champions are expected to ask for around €100m for the winger.
The asking fee could be a big problem for Bayern. Uli Hoeness has said that Bayern would not spend more than €80m on any one player this summer. However, statements made to the media are not binding contracts, and Bayern have the leeway (and funds) to be flexible.
Another obstacle could be the fact that Bild says that Sane would prefer to stay at City and try and convince Pep Guardiola to give him another chance. If the player is not willing to join Bayern, then the negotiations could become almost impossible.
Bild also claims that Bayern would prefer a winger that could play both on the right and the left.
Leroy Sane certainly fits the bill, and his numbers at Manchester City exceptional. Sane would be the perfect winger to replace Arjen Robben or Franck Ribery at Bayern.
Bayern bosses will probably make every effort they can to sign him.
